This catastrophic occurrence was triggered by a convergence of powerful celestial energies that resulted in a temporary rupture in the fabric of reality. As a result, a surge of chaotic and corrupted aether swept through Eorzea, shattering the stability of the realm.[break][break] The Ascians, ancient beings driven by a mysterious agenda, were profoundly affected by the Shattering Eclipse. The event disrupted their carefully laid plans, causing a fracture within their own ranks. Some Ascians embraced the chaos and sought to exploit the shattered state of Eorzea, seeing an opportunity to further their dark machinations. Others, however, recognized the unpredictability of the aftermath and retreated to regroup and reassess their strategies, their influence temporarily weakened.[break][break] The city-states of Eorzea, once bastions of power and prosperity, bore the brunt of the cataclysm. Each city-state suffered its unique consequences:[break][break]
- Ul'dah, the bustling commercial hub, was severely hit by the cataclysm. The upheaval disrupted the flow of trade and commerce, causing economic turmoil and widespread unrest. The loss of key infrastructure and resources led to internal power struggles within Ul'dah as factions vied for control over what remained of the city-state's wealth.
- Gridania, nestled within the lush forests, faced the wrath of nature unleashed. The cataclysm intensified the already rampant corruption and unleashed twisted, malevolent beings upon the Wood Wailers and the Elementals. Gridania found itself engaged in a constant battle to protect its remaining lands and restore the harmony of the Twelveswood.
- Limsa Lominsa, the maritime city-state, suffered the wrath of the sea. Devastating tidal waves and colossal storms battered the city, severely damaging its naval fleet and infrastructure. The upheaval disrupted Limsa Lominsa's dominance over the seas, as rival pirate factions sought to exploit the weakened state of the city-state and seize control of its waters.
- Ishgard, the ancient city-state nestled high in the Coerthas Highlands, faced its own trials during the cataclysm. The event triggered an upheaval within the city's religious and political structures. The once-dominant Ishgardian theocracy, already grappling with internal conflicts, faced increased scrutiny and unrest among its populace. The Shattering Eclipse also led to the awakening of dormant dragons and their destructive rampage across Ishgard's lands, leaving the city-state in ruins and its people in despair.
- Ala Mhigo, a once-proud city-state, was already under the oppressive control of the Garlean Empire prior to the cataclysm. However, the Shattering Eclipse intensified the Empire's grip on the city-state, leading to increased militarization and tighter restrictions on the populace. The cataclysmic event also caused significant destruction within Ala Mhigo's borders, leaving the city-state in ruins and the resistance forces fragmented.
- Doma, a distant city-state ruled by a proud and noble samurai culture, suffered greatly from the cataclysm.
